For safety reasons any new starters must have their 5th birthday before the 31st August 2015 - in other words are currently in reception at school or are older.
Due to changes in work commitments not all of the qualified coaches will be able to attend every session. This means that your child may not be in the same group every week, as groups will depend on how many coaches are present. We will also be asking for parents to help with each group. Other help, such as looking after the signing-on table is welcome.
Please check you child's bike is in a safe condition with working brakes, plugged bar ends, correct seat height etc. Take it to a bike shop if you are not sure. Also, please ensure your child's helmet is adjusted correctly. Have a look at the following link: Cyclescheme
Date for the diary - Lakeland Sprinters Presentation Evening
Wednesday 9th September 2015 the Lakeland Sprinters will be holding a Presentation Evening with a Bring and Share Supper. Venue to be confirmed nearer the time
Don is going for an operation and won't be able to coach for the foreseeable future.
We have enough coaches to run the full session in half term week. However in June, due to work commitments some weeks only one coach will be available. On these evenings unfortunately we will not be able to have a coaching session for the Mini Group.
British Cycling announces changes to the youth competition programme
The board of British Cycling has approved significant changes to the youth competition programme from 2016. The changes are part of an ongoing response to the increasing numbers of young people who want to take part in cycle sport and are founded on three key principles:
•Youth cycling should be fun. For young riders, building a lifelong passion for cycling through the development of core skills should be the focus and primary outcome.
•Youth cycling should be accessible. From club coaching activities to competition opportunities to equipment, young people should have the opportunity to access the sport and cost should not be a barrier.
•Youth cycling should be simple and easy to understand. The rules, regulations and other information should be clear and easy to follow for all involved.
Lakeland Sprinters sessions continue in the school holidays except that there isn't a session on 22nd July. However, there will be a Women and older Girls development session that evening at 7pm. I'll be contacting the girls eligible with details soon. If any Mums are interested, please contact Penny
There are events coming up at Penrith and Greystoke in July - all the details are on the racing page. Contact the organisers if you have any questions.
There is a Level 1 coaching course in Dumfries in September. Please contact Penny for more details if you are interested in coaching.
